Basic Pizza Dough

Here’s both the hand and Thermomix version of my fave basic pizza dough. You can do so much with this!

Here’s a video making a pizza scroll packed with Smug Sauce that I make for the kids for their school lunches. It’s also perfect for a picnic. I love making this dough into ‘pull aparts’ too! You can get away with hiding so much goodness in here for the kids!

  • 220g luke warm water

  • 1 tsp sugar or sweetener

  • 20 grams fresh yeast or 1 sachet (2tsp) of instant yeast

  • 400grams bakers flour (strong white plain flour)

  • 1 tsp salt

Hand Method

  • Heat oven to 200C (400F)

  • Lightly grease a large bowl with oil and set aside

  • Place water, sugar and yeast in a bowl and allow the yeast to dissolve and bubbles to appear on the surface

  • add flour, olive oil and salt and form into a ball

  • lightly flour your bench-top and work (knead) with your hands for 3-4 mins or until it feels elastic

  • Place in the oiled bowl, cover with wrapping and leave in a warm place to double in size over an hour or two

  • Stretch or roll out, top with Smug Sauce and go!

Thermomix method

  • Place water, sugar or malt powder (optional) and yeast into mixing bowl and mix 20 sec/speed 2.

  • Add baker's flour, oil and salt and knead 2 min/.

  • Transfer dough into prepared bowl and work into a ball. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and leave to prove in a warm place until doubled in size (approx. 1 hour). Use as required.
