What I wish I had have known about aging at 32 instead of 42... (and what I'd do differently).

There’s a number of things I would have done differently going back ten years had I been focusing on my wellbeing, vitality and overall health the way I am now so that I can feel and look better for longer.

For me, health is #1 how I FEEL. Am I fluid? How well can I move? Am I capable of doing activities I want to? Do I have energy? Do I wake up feeling like I cannot wait to get into the day? Do I feel super well on the vast majority of my days?.

Then, #2 it’s how I look. I ain’t gonna lie, sugar-coat it or feel ashamed to care about my presentation (I say that when I’ll never let the world see me the moment I wake up 🤣). When I look healthy and vibrant and fit, I feel better, full stop. And I spend a LOT of time in the sun, which won’t stop, so I have a platter of things I do to support the damage this can cause.

Ageing is caused by a mix of things, oxidative damage/cellular turnover, cellular autophogy, inflammation, metabolism. There’s many studies that show that ageing itself is caused by NAD+ degradation. NAD+ acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in cellular energy metabolism and various metabolic pathways such as glycolysis, fatty acid oxidation, and the citric acid cycle.

We begin to lose NAD+ from around the age of 25… so if we could ALL go back, this would have been a golden time to stop the booze, drugs and late nights and take better care…

BUT ANYWAY… 🤪

NAD+:

doTERRA actually created the MetaPWR Sachets to work on halting and reversing this exact process by including NA or NMN in the sachets, a direct precursor to NAD+ in the body that reverses and reduces aging. If only we have had launched them 8 years ago when I first opened my account. Thank goodness we have them now though, the MetaPWR Sachet.

We also have the productivity of our lymphatic system, our systems of detox, and whether or not we allow our body ample time to repair and rejuvenate with ease that affect how we age

Collagen:

Collagen plays a crucial role in maintaining the structure, elasticity, and firmness of our skin. As we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen, leading to the formation of wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of aging. By replenishing collagen levels, either through supplements or topical treatments, you can help support skin elasticity and hydration, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and promote a more youthful complexion. Additionally, collagen helps strengthen hair, nails, and joints, contributing to an overall sense of vitality and well-being.

I get a lot of collagen from the animal foods I eat such as bone broth, and slow cooked meats on the bone, but you can also add collagen powder to hot drinks, smoothies or food, and of course you can purchase this to drink in supplement form such as within the MetaPWR range from doTERRA.

Collagen comes in the MetaPWR Advantage Sachets 🍊. The doTERRA Advantage won ‘Best Collagen Supplement of 2023’.

Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin that helps retain moisture and keep it hydrated. As we age, our skin’s ability to produce and retain HA decreases, leading to dryness, fine lines, and a loss of firmness. It aids in moisture retention, skin barrier function, collagen synthesis, and has anti-oxidant properties.

YES, they're kind of a BIG DEAL.

Lympathic system:

Our lymphatic system plays a huge role in how we age as it creates or halts flow in the body. It keeps body fluid levels in balance and defends the body against infections. Lymphatic vessels, tissues, organs, and glands work together to drain a watery fluid called lymph from throughout the body. but it has no pump so you have to move it MANUALLY babes.

You can exercise, massage, dry body brush (I personally don’t recommend choosing one, but many). I use the MetaPWR active oil and cypress oils when I body brush as the former helps to reduce lipid droplet accumulation (fat cells fat accumulation) and both oils create flow in the body via the lymphatic system. They also smell amazing and you want both of these oils in your ‘I replace these consistently’ oils list.

Sleep: 💤

I’d focus on sleep more. Accruing evidence suggests that habitually short, or disturbed sleep may have significant consequences for long term health and longevity. Understanding that it is when we sleep the body - immune, metabolism, muscular skeletal, digestive system repair and recover - we can see that unless we give our body the rest she needs to allow these systems to come back ‘home’ again, we are in chronic stress, which causes stress hormone cortisol to rise, fatigue to deepen and cellular breakdown to occur (and not be replenished at the optimal rate).

I love diffusing lavender, frankincense, easy air blend or peppermint oil at bedtime for ease in falling asleep, nervous system rest, and increased cognitive function while sleeping.

Vitamin C:

This is a super ingredient that has anti-aging benefits and repairs existing skin damage. It blocks damage before it even happens by neutralising free radicals. It also helps rebuild your skin’s structure by stimulating collagen production, a protein that makes up your connective tissue and gives your skin its structure. mentions. I personally love getting a heap of this via my diet and add Kakadu Plum powder from Austral Herbs into my pomegranate gummies (that the girls also have in their lunchboxes).

Eat whole foods:

Eat the rainbow, fall in love with protein and fat. ;) A high-protein diet can be beneficial for anti-aging due to several reasons. Collagen production, muscle mass maintenance, ell repair and regeneration, bone health, satiety and weight Management: Protein is the most satiating macronutrient, meaning it helps keep you feeling full and satisfied after meals.

By including adequate protein in your diet, you may be less likely to overeat and more likely to maintain a healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight is important for overall health and can contribute to a slower rate of aging. Good quality fats are micro-nutrient dense, particularly in and for fat-soluble vitamins A, E, D, K. if we focus on protein, we are also (hopefully) reducing a high carb diet that can cause metabolic conditions, and can contributes to cellular damage and wear.

I could think of so many more, but the reality is, a DAY IN THE LIFE of me at 32 giving a shit about ageing and how I approached that would look like this:

  • Wake with the sun.

  • Move my body and compress my muscles.

  • Eat a diet rich in whole foods, with a focus on protein (via animal sources) and a LOT of colour for antioxidants.

  • Take my collagen, NAD+ boosting, skin moisture supplement MetaPWR Advantage.

  • Pump that Vitamin C.

  • Dry body brush using MetaPWR Active oil and Cypress Oil.

  • Prioritise sleep and recovery and use my essential oils to ground, calm and support my rest.
